How Are LED Displays Different From LCD Displays?

LED displays are newer variants of electronic displays available in the market. They are equipped with more advanced technology, and considered better than their predecessors. Generally, two types of displays are popular in the market namely Light Emitting Diodes (LED) and Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD).

Normally, people get confused between these two options, while purchasing. They are unable to select the best option is and how these two displays are different from each other.

LED graphic displays are the latest and therefore, better than LCDs in various aspects. The major differences are as follows:

  • Contrast levels
  • Without a doubt, LEDs come with better contrast ratio compared to liquid crystal displays. One of the major disadvantages associated with LCD displays is their inability to create dark areas of the images, which in turn hampers the quality of images produced on the screen.
On the other hand, LED displays create dark areas for images, simultaneously improving contrast and quality of the images produced.

  • Color quality and accuracy
  • The color accuracy of light emitting diodes is much better than liquid crystal displays. Those looking for better color quality and accuracy should go for LED displays.

  • Difference between viewing angles
  • When it comes to making a comparison between the viewing angles of LED and LCD displays, the viewing angle of LED’s is quite larger than LCD. The contrast ratio in LCDs starts diminishing beyond 30 degrees from the center whereas there is no such drawback associated with LEDs. They have wide viewing angles.

  • Available sizes
  • There is some difference between sizes of LED and LCD displays available in the market. The available sizes for LED’s are 17 inches to 70 inches. On the other hand, the available sizes for LCDs are 15 inches to 65 inches.

  • Response rate
  • The response rate of LEDs is better than LCDs. Issues such as motion lag and blurring of images are not associated with LEDs.

  • Power consumption
  • Generally, people think that the device equipped with advanced technology will consume less power but it is not the case with these two forms of displays as they consume the same amount of power to a good extent.
If you are looking for better features and picture quality, then LED should be your first choice.
